Just what the hell is skylarking anyway?
Otherwise known as buffoonery, tomfoolery, clownin’, horsin’, monkeyin’, and funnin’, skylarking is about keeping your playful side in shape so that you don’t get too serious.
The term was originally used by sailors, referring to the pranks they played aboard ship to avoid the depression that could come while at sea with the same group of people for months at a time.
And let’s admit it: We’re all, in some way, at sea, holding on for dear life and trying not to barf all over the guy next to us.
So it just makes sense to take a few deep breaths, set your eyes on the horizon, and laugh at the fact that no one really knows what they’re talking about.
Now get on into it, you old skylarking so-and-so.
